People live by the clock because time is important to all of us. We should not squander time, for it is what life is made of. Sadly, many frustrated people seems to always fight the clock.

As I study Jesus’s life I am amazed that He never seemed to be in a hurry. In fact, He was doing the most important job in history which was redeeming the world for mankind. He only had a few years to do it, yet was never in haste. Time was His friend.

The Bible gives us some great insights into how time can become our friend rather than our enemy. Basically, God exist in a realm that is not bound by time or space. God doesn’t wear a Rolex or even a Timex. He is the creator of time and He is greater than time. So, the first step in making time our friend is to totally immerse ourselves in God. In Psalms 90:4, 10, 12, we discover how God defines time. I will use four alphabets in the word TIME to stress the importance of time in our lives based on these verses.

TreasureGod says we should treasure time as a valuable commodity. We number our years but God says everyday is so precious. We should treasure and number it. The most valuable asset to share with our family is our time. Time is a resource that is non-renewable and non-transferable. We cannot store it, slow it, hold it up, divide it or give it up. We can’t hoard it up and set it for rainy day. When it’s lost, it is unrecoverable. When we kill time, we ought to remember that it has no resurrection. We should treasure time as the most valuable asset given to us in this world.

Invest – We use a lot of phrases with time which are not feasible in essence. We can’t buy more time and we can’t really find more time.  We can’t save time but only invest it. Time is more valuable than money but it is like money in that it can be spent and invested. It is different from money though because while money can be saved, time can’t. If we don’t use it, we lose it. Time is that capital that God has given us to invest. People are the stocks in which we have to invest our time whether they are blue chips or menial stocks or even junk bonds. We need to invest time wisely because there is no promise of more time tomorrow. Where we invest our time reveals what is most important to us.

Manage – Time is given to us by God and we are only to manage it.  God is the creator of time and He alone controls it. Every moment is a gift from God that must be managed wisely. However, the Bible uses another word to refer to managing time. Instead of managing our time, it speaks of redeeming the time, which is an even better idea. To redeem time means to live always looking for every opportunity to invest time wisely then wasting them away. When an opportunity passes, it can’t be reclaimed, it is gone forever. If we don’t manage our time, someone else will manage it for us.

EnjoyThe time we spend with our family at home or at church should be enjoyable. It should be the best time in our lives. We should not allow anybody or anything to disrupt our time together.  Spending time with the family should be our top priority. Psalms 90 says God is from everlasting to everlasting, as such even if we live 90 years, it is just a snap of the finger compared to God’s eternity.

At NCCkl, let us treasure both biological and spiritual family time.  Invest it wisely. Manage time as a gift from God. Enjoy family time to its fullest.
