Carry The Glory

Thursday, August 4th, 2016

Now it was told King David, saying, “The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with gladness.  2 Samuel 6:12

The passage above denotes the story of how King David brought the Ark of the Covenant in two attempts to Jerusalem which involved failure, judgment and restoration of God.  A failed first attempt resulted in a tragic death and public humiliation, however the second attempt  invoked glory for God and blessing for His people.  What a joy to know we serve a God Who gives second chances.

How does this relate to us?  It is important to recognize that most of us at NCCkl  are privileged to know God and receive perfect salvation in our second attempt.  Our faith in the righteousness of God that consists Jesus’ baptism, death and resurrection provided perfect remission of sin and the indwelling Holy Spirit.  The Ark of the Covenant in the OT is the portrait of Jesus Christ in the NT.  Further account in 1 Sam 4, 1 Chronicles 13-15 narrates how we are to approach the God of salvation. Sadly, the wicked sons of Eli like some misguided Christians treated the Ark like a luck charm to secure victory and blessings.  We too at one time drew close to Jesus merely for physical and worldly blessings for our personal gratifications.  Such irreverent approach deprives us of true salvation in Christ.  King David  acknowledged the Ark as a sacred and preciousness to God.  He successfully brought the Ark  in his second attempt to Jerusalem.

This biblical account reveals several important principles on how to be saved and carry the glory of God.

The Ark represents the power, the glory and the presence of God.  David was a man after God’s heart.

  1. Submit To The Word Of Righteousness

The first principle to attain salvation and carry the glory of God is to submit to the Word of God.  After failing to bring the Ark in his first attempt, David searched the Scriptures to discover a specific instruction for transporting the Ark.  This revelation relates to us on how and what we are to believe in order to be saved by grace through faith in the righteousness of God.  God’s Word is unchanging, absolute and the only way to meet Jesus in the Bible.

  1. Submit to God’s Salvation Plan

The contrast between the two attempts is startling.  While the first attempt was a carnival atmosphere and resulted in tragic death. The second attempt was a reverent and humble approach according to God’s prepared way of salvation that involved blood sacrifice and life.  1 Chro 15:26; Heb 10:19.  In order to be saved, we must submit to the redemptive plan devised perfectly through Jesus’ baptism and death to secure our justification of faith in the righteousness of God.

  1. Submit To The Perfect Will Of God

Be sanctified by the Truth for the Word of God is Truth.  To be saved and carry the glory of God like David we must consecrate ourselves by faith in the Word of God.  Paul’s exhortation to Timothy is similar to David’s exhortation to the people of Israel, “cleanse yourselves to be a vessel of honour, made holy, useful to the Master and equipped for every good work”  2 Tim 2:21   We will never experience sinless perfection on earth while living in the flesh but personal holiness is pertinent to allow the light of God’s goodness and grace to shine through us.  The sad reality is that many Christians even after being given a second chance, redeemed by the water and Spirit continues to love the world and forsake the Lord.

Dear friends, as royal priesthood, let us embrace the call to carry the glory and serve His righteousness.
