Have You Met The Word?

“As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” 6 After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. 7 “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.” John 9:1-7
The Scripture passage above revolves around a visually disabled man. For those of us who have no vision problem, it is impossible to imagine just how much suffering and hardship he has to go through. In fact, did you know that there actually are other visually disabled people in this world who are even more miserable than him? They are none other than the spiritually blind.
Many today are living as spiritually blind, guided by their own convictions rather than the faith in the Righteousness of God.
Have You Met The Word?
1.Why Are We Spiritually Blind? John 9:1-3
Jesus met a man who was blind from birth. The disciple asked him, “because of whose sin did the man become blind?” Is it because of his sin or his parents? Jesus then answered, “no, it is because of neither his parents’ sins or his but to reveal God’s work. He was born blind so that the work of God could be manifested in his life.
God often reveals His will through parables and symbols in His Word. The blind man in the passage draws an analogy to the spiritually blind people rather than the physically blind. In other words, this passage explains why God allowed us to be born into spiritual blindness. It was to make us born again so that we can be created in Christ Jesus. Godwantedto bestow His grace of salvation in us. God wants to remove our spiritual blindness by faith in His Righteousness so that we may experience His unlimited grace revealed in the Word. The spiritually blind are those who, trapped in sin, cannot realize the Gospel Truth even when they hear the Word of God. All of us were first born spiritually blind so that God’s will and His good intent can be fulfilled in those who believe in the righteousness for the forgiveness of sins. Our Lord came down to this earth to take our sins through His baptism and face the vicarious judgment on the cross to give us eternal life.
2. Only The Righteous Can Preach The Gospel John 9:4-5
In vs 4 and 5, the Lord said “I must work while it is still day.” As we have received the remission of sins, our hearts are no longer in the darkness of the night but under the daylight. That’s because the Spirit of the Lord dwells in our hearts. Once the Lord ascended, He gave us the Spirit of Light to preach His Gospel for the removal of darkness in man’s heart. Therefore, we must carry out God’s work until the day the Lord returns. When the believers are lifted up, the night will come when we will not be able to work anymore.
3. Proper Faith John 9: 6-7
Why did the Lord say to the blind man to go and wash in the Pool of Siloam? ‘Siloam’ means ‘sent.’ Only when people meet God’s servant who have received the remission of sins, that is, those who have been sent by God to minister, one can identify as sinner to receive his salvation by faith in the Gospel of Righteousness. The eyes of such believers in the Word are opened to acknowledge that they have truly become sinless and righteous by faith in Jesus’ baptism and death. The Bible says that to open the blind man’s eyes, our Lord spat on the ground, made clay with the saliva and put it in his eyes. The ‘ground’ refers to the human heart. Jesus spat on the ground means that man’s heart is spiritually accursed. Man is born spiritually blind because of his sinful state in order to experience God’s grace in his lifetime.
