Warning for Carnal Believers
Through the gospel of the water and the Spirit, by believing in Jesus’ baptism, death, and resurrection, we have already been set free from sin. Our sinful nature has been judged and condemned in His body. Because of this, we are heaven-bound, not because of our efforts, but because of our faith in what He has done. Yet, even with this truth, the flesh still remains present, and the pull of sensuality is still real. That is why the Word of God calls us not just to believe, but to walk in the Spirit.
The Working Power of the Word
The greatest power given to the believer is found in the Word of God. God’s Word is not ordinary speech, human opinion, or religious tradition. It is inspired by God, authoritative in all it declares, and sufficient for everything concerning salvation, sanctification, spiritual maturity, and righteous living. The Word was given to transform us inwardly so that we increasingly reflect the likeness of Christ. It is central to the believer’s life because it shapes our understanding, renews our hearts, and directs how we live before God.
Higher Power, Higher Life
Humanity has always had a power problem. From the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden, mankind became separated from God, the true source of life and strength. Humanity became disconnected from the ultimate power source and was left to operate through the flesh. The flesh is weak, unstable, and governed by sin. It cannot overcome corruption or produce the holy life God intended. The condition of the world reflects this reality. Corruption, selfish ambition, moral decay, and brokenness continue wherever people live according to the flesh. No amount of human ability can solve the deepest problem of the human heart.
Power at Work
A key element of spiritual maturity is understanding the power that operates within the believer. Christ has already completed the work of salvation through His baptism, death, and resurrection. Through the Gospel of the water and the Spirit, everything needed for salvation is finished. However, many believers live as though there is a power failure. Like a sudden blackout, everything becomes still and dark. In the same way, though God has given us power, many walk around as though that power is not there, living passive and mediocre lives, without purpose or direction.
