The Secret to Ministry

“Freely you have received, freely give.” Matt 10:8
We can only give what we ourselves have received from God. If we have understood and received the Gospel Truth of the water and Spirit which contains the Righteousness of God as a free gift, then we can minister the same Gospel to others.
The Measure of Ministry
Ministry is not competitive. We do not measure the success of our ministry against one another. We do not measure our success by the numbers in our church. We measure our ministry against the ministry of Christ Himself. 2 Cor 10:12-18; Eph 4:13
The Model of Ministry
The model of all ministries is Christ. He is the example of how we are to minister. Ministry is not controlling other people. Ministry is not being the big boss. No, ministry means serving others with the servant heart of Christ. Phil 2:5-7; 2 Cor 4:5
The Yoke of Ministry
Jesus used the picture of yoked oxen plough a field. When you join two oxen with one yoke, the plough becomes easier. Christ wants us to be yoked with Him so that we can learn to minister like Him. Matt 11:29-30
The Wrong Yoke
This yoke of slavery is the yoke of self-effort. This is the heavy yoke because we do it all in our own strength. This is not the yoke of ministry that God has planned for His Church. Gal 5:1
The Right Yoke
God wants us to be yoked with Christ. This means that Christ carries the heaviest load. This is why His yoke is easy and His burden is light. We work alongside Christ in ministry with Him, drawing on His strength. When there are many Christians all yoked to Christ, then we can be yoked together in ministry. However it is important that each one can be yoked to Christ individually before we can be yoked together. 2 Cor 6:1, 14
The Secret Place
There can be no better pattern of ministry than of Jesus Himself. Jesus always abided in the presence of His Father through ministry and prayer. Isa 49:2; Mk 1:35; Luke 6:12. One time, Jesus had been up on the mountain in prayer. When He came down He found His disciples arguing. They had tried to cast a demon out without success. Afterwards, they asked Jesus why they had failed. He said, “This can come out only by prayer.” Mk 9:29 Jesus then preceded to cast out the demon. Prayer is simply responding to God’s ability than ours.
Jesus was able to cast out the evil spirit because He had already been up on the mountain in prayer and He is constantly walking in the power of God. This was the secret to Jesus ministry. As we are yoked with Christ, our ministry becomes yoked with Christ in power. Matt 10:27 A life of abiding and prayer in Christ is the foundation of all ministry. What we hear in the secret place with the Lord is what we speak in the open.
Join The Work of God
God is always at work. We simply join with God in His work. Ministry is doing what we see the Father already doing. Ministry is not doing the work of God. Ministry is joining in God’s own work. As we abide in God’s presence each day, we learn to recognize the ongoing work of God in people’s lives. We then cooperate in His work. As we do this, God confirms His ministry through us by the power and anointing of His Spirit. John 5:17,19; Mark 16:20
