Inherited Authority & Power

“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” Matt 16:18
In accordance with the passage above, Jesus made the promise to give us His power and authority. The world we live in has two realms – the natural and the spiritual. We need to be able to know how to live in this spiritual realm in a way that affects the natural realm.
In 1 Cor 4: 19-20, Paul makes an amazing statement. Paul says in these verses that he is coming to Corinth to see the teachers that are there and he is not coming to hear their words but he is coming to see the power in their lives. For the Kingdom of God is not words but it is power.
Paul is saying that God wants us to appropriate that power and do His work through that power and that our lives shall be categorized by the power of God.
- Christ Power and Authority Eph 1:19
Paul says “I pray that you will begin to understand the incredible greatness of His power.” Now just prior to this verse, Paul said, “I pray that a spirit of wisdom and revelation will be given to you.” Paul says that the power at work in us in the very power that raised Jesus Christ from death. How many of us have ever thought of our bodies being vessels that carry the power of God, the very power that raised Jesus Christ from death? How many of us need revelation to understand what it truly means? What hinders us from a life of God’s power is not the need to get more power but instead it is that we need to release the power that is already been given to us through our union with Jesus Christ?
What is inhibiting us? We cannot minister in God’s power when we are not living under God’s authority. Jesus Christ, as true God yet true Man, lived underneath the Father’s authority. Jesus said that, there was nothing He said or did that He had not first heard from the Father. John 5:30; John 8:26
- Jesus Gives His Authority And Power To Us
Our united faith with Jesus’ baptism, death and resurrection is essential to exercise authority and to release power. The reason Jesus’ power was evident in the Gospels is because He was sensitive and obedient to the perfect will of the Father. He didn’t have a spirit of independence, rebellion or insurrection. Each of us should ask ourselves, do I have any independence in my life? Do I have any lack of submission? Do I have any rebellion? Jesus understood how important it is that He did not allow any of those mentioned above to be in His life. 1 Sam 15:22 We must be sensitive that we are living in proper relationship and alignment with God’s authority.
As the Father send the Son into the world, the Son sends us in the world. If I am on earth with the mission of the Father to do the works Jesus did, then I must be totally dependent on God. There is a difference between authority and power. Authority is the capacity we have due to our position. I have authority of God in me due to my union with Jesus Christ. Power is the capacity I have due to my life posture. Lk 4:36; Lk 9 A life of total dependence in God and not ourselves. Self reliance and pride marginalizes the release of the authority of God in our lives. God resist the proud and gives grace to the humble. Lack of submission and rebellion will also marginalize the power of God in us that raised Jesus from the dead. Fear and unbelief has the same effect to compromise the release of God’s power in us. Authority is an absolute that we have in Christ but power is relative. It is related to life posture. It is about seeing the Kingdom of God advancing so that the gate of Hades cannot withstand it.
At NCCkl, let us align ourselves in the perfect will of God to release our God given authority and power in order to fulfill our divine call. We must align with God’s Truth that declares how Jesus through His baptism, death and resurrection has set us free from sin for us to be born again as a new creation to serve His Kingdom on earth.
